It’s been a long long time…
Alright, so I kind of died 7 months ago and stopped posting. I know, I’m lame. But the reason why is because actually, I got pregnant again. And I was extremely morning sick, just like last time! But this time, I had a toddler running around and so it was much harder to blog. So, needless to say, I have not really been exercising and losing weight.
I’m 7 months along now, due December 21st with another little girl, whom we will be naming Willow! I’ve been kind of able to keep my weight down… only 15 (I’m at about 226, up from 211 prepregnancy) lbs gained last time I checked… though I might have balloooned… I’ve been afraid of weighing myself for the past two weeks, because I keep gorging on candy and ice cream and stuff.
I’m planning on starting “dieting” this next week though (as in keeping track of how many calories I’m eating, not actually dieting dieting.) I don’t want to gain 30 lbs again, so that it isn’t so hard to lose it all after the new little one is born.
Someone asked if I’ve tried Wii Fit Plus yet, and no, I haven’t. I’m waiting for a good deal to come around before I buy it, because I’m a cheapskate like that.
I haven’t really been exercising… but I think I will try at least doing free step on Wii Fit for 15 minutes a day if I can, so that I can keep my blood pressure down and just be healthy. Tried doing My Fitness Coach a month ago consistently and got bad sciatica and so had to stop. So I’m guessing it’s best if I keep my exercising as low impact as possible.
I’ll keep you updated on what happens. Hopefully I can keep my weight down! Got a doctor’s appointment on Tuesday, so we’ll see what the scale says.
Wii Fit Diet, and My Fitness Coach!
Ok, so I suck at updating, but I haven’t had much happen lately. I’ve been exercising still and eating well, so I’m now down to 213 lbs. That means I’ve lost almost 26 lbs overall now! I’m quite proud of myself.
Only 53 more lbs to go, so I’m 1/3 of the way there! Additionally, only 3 lbs to lose and I’m no longer Obese, I will just be Overweight! How wonderful!!
On another note, I bought My Fitness Coach, because I was honestly getting a little bored with the Wii Fit exercises. There is just not enough different aerobic exercises to do in Wii Fit and I hate having to pick out what I want to do. It takes like 45-50 minutes to do a 30 minute workout. But My Fitness Coach, which was only $30 new at Gamestop, is super cool. It doesn’t work with the Wii Balance Board (other than using it as a step) but it’s still nice. Kind of like an exercise video, only it’s different every time.
It has you take measurements of your body when you start your profile, asks what equipment you have on hand, figures out your fitness level, asks you what your goal is for yourself and then determines what exercises you should do to reach that goal. Then you commit to a certain amount of workouts each week.
I got the game yesterday, and I only played it yesterday (I try not to exercise on Sundays), but today I am SUPER sore. It had me focusing on my upper body and core muscles (with a little bit of cardio), and so now my back, abs, thighs, butt and arms all hurt. And it did it without using weights either. I exercised for 30 minutes total, split into two 15 minute sessions. You have to do a minimum of 15 minutes of working out when you play and it keeps you going and working the whole time! You can adjust how hard it is though if it’s too hard or too easy, which is nice. On the easiest level, it gives you a 15 second or so break in between exercises, which is a little too easy for me.
I do really like the game though, as it’s got a lot of variety (over 400 exercises, I hear) and it’s got some fun, variable music (which is one thing that seriously is lacking in Wii Fit). I really like that it also picks the exercises for me, depending on what areas of my body I want to target for the day. Also, it tells you how many calories you’ve burned at the end of your workout. That’s another thing I thought lacked in Wii Fit.
The only things I don’t like are a) that the woman has annoying voice and b) that she has to “find the rhythm” three times in your workout. It’s kind of nice to rest while she does it, I guess, but I’d prefer she didn’t. Not a big deal though. Her voice, however, is kind of nasally and just generally grating. She also repeats the same phrases over and over again, which is again, slightly annoying. But the workouts are great, and so I do like that.
Have a peaceful super bowl sunday!
Ooo, I forgot!!! PS! I managed to actually be perfectly balanced, 50.0% on both feet for my weigh in on the 26th of January. I even took a picture, I was so proud of myself!!
Wii Fit Diet; Picture time!
Ok, so that you can see what I look like now that I’ve lost 18 pounds from dieting and playing Wii Fit, here are the pictures of me 18 lbs slimmer, in my new house!

Me at 220 after following my Wii Fit Diet!
Here’s the pic of me at 238.8 pounds:

Ok, so maybe it doesn’t seem like a huge difference. But it is!
Wii Fit Diet, Again
Ok, ok…. so I’ve been really lazy for the last several months and haven’t updated the blog. I’ve moved twice, bought a house, bought another puppy, and my baby is getting older and more mobile, so I haven’t done much.
The good news is that the weight I lost from my “Wii Fit Diet” still seems to be gone, despite only sporadic exercising. I weighed in at 220 yesterday, which is 18 lbs down from where I started and 5 lbs down from my last post. The exercises on Wii Fit have kind of become repetitive and boring to me, so I’ve decided to just do Free Step and watch a movie for half an hour while I do it, in the morning after breakfast, rather than at night. I’m switching to morning because I tend to feel really tired at night and then want to skip the exercise.
As far as eating goes, I’m going to start calorie counting again. But besides that, about a week ago I decided to go off sugar. I decided this because I used to eat SO MUCH SUGAR. My husband loves sugar (and somehow is a healthy weight? I just don’t get it), and we always had candies, cookies, soda, ice cream, etc around our house. I would eat small amounts of it when my husband was home, but once he’d go to work, I’d eat and eat and eat whatever was around. I just couldn’t help myself. And that’s when I knew I was addicted to sugar. Even when I calorie counted, I always left some calories for my ice cream. It was bad and it was affecting my health.
So I just went cold turkey. Did some research on sugar addiction and made my husband take all the cookies and candies and whatnot to work with him. Now, I’m only off things that are mostly sugar. Like most breakfast cereal, candies, cookies, syrup, etc. I still eat bread and the like, because it’s just the majorly sugary items that were doing me in. So far it’s been a mixed result. Just being a week into it, I’ve had mood swings, headaches, cravings, been depressed and been happy. But I know it takes a while for your body to get used to not having so much sugar all the time.
Some of the ill effects of having too much sugar in one’s diet, I discovered, are as follows:
- Feeling lethargic (I had a big! problem with feeling lethargic)
- Sexual side effects. Sugar suppresses SHBG (sex hormone binding globulin), which controls the amount of estrogen and testosterone in your body. If you don’t have the right amount of those hormones, it lowers libido. You can do a little bit of research if you’re interested in learning more about that.
- Diabetes
- Depression
- Mood swings
I can certainly tell you that some of the positive effects of eating less sugar have already shown up. I have a lot more energy… I used to feel tired in the mornings and not want to get out of bed, but now I get up and feel awake and energized. I don’t need a sugary cereal to wake me up. Maybe TMI, but I have noticed that my libido has increased dramatically. I feel more focused and I see things more clearly. It’s like I was in a haze before, and now suddenly I’m able to pay more attention to what’s around me. Still having some weird problems with depression and mood swings, but I’m hoping that will clear up soon.
It was HARD to go off of the sugar at first. Three days after I went off it, I had to make some goodies for my neighbors. I made cookies and brownies. I was literally fighting myself to not lick the spoon, try a cookie, lick the frosting off my hand and so on. It was really weird to have to use my self-will to overpower my craving for that stuff. It was like I was a parched man who’d been wandering in the desert for days, who finally finds some water… I almost couldn’t help myself. But I DID win. I would not recommend that anyone else test themselves like that though. Just keep the sugar out of the house, period, until you’ve been off it for 2 weeks or more.
So anyway, hopefully I’ll be able to drop to my target weight soon (from 220 down to 160 is what I am hoping, so 60 more lbs). Or at least drop down from an Obese BMI to an Overweight BMI. I’ll keep you posted, probably every other day.
It’s nice to get back into the groove of things!
Oh, also, to the person who commented regarding my hamburger helper meals… I know, the sodium is horrible… I’ve started making fresher recipes now though, so we only have hamburger helper every once in a while now.
Good luck to all you newbies who just bought a Wii Fit for Christmas. Stay committed… work out every day and eat healthy. You’ll lose weight, and hopefully, like me, you’ll keep it off. It DOES work. I do no other exercise besides Wii Fit and I have lost weight. So don’t get discouraged!
Wii Fit Diet, Day 1
So I picked up a Wii Fit last night! Andrew found one on E-bay that was used and selling nearby, so we got it for $112 and went to West Jordan to get it. It was hardly used at all and is in great shape. So I’m now going to try to incorporate at least half an hour of aerobic exercise from my Wii Fit into my daily routine.
My first day on the Wii Fit was like last night at 11 pm, so we won’t count that. We’ll start with my stats for today (6/8/08):
Weight: 238.8 lbs
BMI: 34.18 (which is obese, sadly)
Wii Fit Age: 32 (my real age will be 22 in 8 days)
Height: 5′10″
Wii Fit Credits scored for today: 42 minutes (all in aerobic exercises… so hula hoop, jogging… etc)
Other stuff:
Pants size: 20
Shirt size: 1x
Bra size: 40DDD (I think this may be where 20 lbs of my weight is right now)
Here are some pictures of me as I am now.. my husband made me laugh in the second one, so I kind of look retarded.

Me at 238.8, before my Wii Fit Diet
So my analysis of myself in these pictures is that sure, I’m fat, but I don’t think I look morbidly obese, as my BMI says I am. I mean, I know a lot of people who are LOTS bigger looking than I am. What are they? Super duper morbidly obese? I don’t get it. :/ Oh well. Suffice it to say, I want to lose about 70 pounds.

As far as diet goes, I’m eating 1700 calories a day now, and balancing out my servings of carbs, fruits, veggies, etc. I have to eat 1700 calories because I’m breastfeeding. The minimum calories you can eat for a normal person is 1200, but breastfeeding burns about 500 calories a day, so if you’re breastfeeding you have to eat at least 1700. Here’s what I eat on a normal day:
Breakfast:
1 cup of a General Mills breakfast cereal (they have whole grains as the main ingredient now) (120 calories or so, depending on the cereal)
1/2 cup of skim milk (40 calories)
1/2 a banana (55 calories)
Lunch:
A sandwich with 2 slices of wheat bread, 4 slices of deli turkey or ham, a slice of cheese, and a tablespoon of mustard. (320 calories)
Snack:
1/2 a banana (55 calories)
1/2 cup of milk (40 calories)
Dinner:
I make a box of hamburger/chicken/tuna helper and eat half of it. I only use 1/2 lb hamburger and 1/2 lb of chicken, but I do use the whole 6 oz of tuna. Also, I use half the margarine and skim milk to make it, which cuts down on the calories a little. (Depending on what I make, it’s 500-700 calories)
I also eat a cup of Steamfresh veggies. They’re very tasty and very easy to make, since you just pop them in the microwave. (30 calories or so)
Snack:
1 small red delicious apple (56 calories)
1 bagel (220 calories… with butter if I have some calories left)
So altogether, that’s about 1400-1600 calories. So then I can have an extra snack of some kind.
I do my calorie counting at calorie count plus, which is a part of about.com. And it’s free! I find that calorie counting helps me a lot in managing what I eat throughout the day. Otherwise I tend to munch on chips and cookies and bad things and eat too much for dinner or lunch, etc. So check it out! It’s at http://caloriecount.about.com.

So anyway, I hope this Wii Fit helps me lose some weight, cause I really need to do so! Wish me luck!
